Note: Version 4.0 of the O*NET Database is no longer the most current production version. See our O*NET 10.0 database page for a link to the current production database. Access to the version 4.0 database is retained because of the major changes introduced into the database by the inclusion of information from the O*NET data collection program. Version 4.0 is the last version that contained only analyst data.

Resources based on the O*NET classification, the Occupational Information Network, are available from a number of sources. The Department of Labor's official source of O*NET information is the National O*NET Center. Before developing products which incorporate O*NET information, please review the O*NET user agreement and certification form.

The NCSC has developed a number of resources based on material obtained from the National O*NET Center, and made those resources available for downloading from our Internet FTP server. (Note: The databases listed here incorporate Version 4.0 of the O*NET database. This version was released for development purposes in March 2002 and incorporated into the O*NET Online application on November 18, 2002.)

The occupations included in Version 4.0 of the O*NET Database are the same as those in the previous version. Changes were made to the variables which describe the occupations. For a document describing these changes, click here (PDF file - 323 KB).

Files included in the O*NET database fall into two categories: core files (those whose content is described in the O*NET content model) and supplemental files (other files, usually files that link O*NET occupations to other classifications). The files developed by the NCSC with content downloaded from the O*NET Center's web site include:
