Non-standard Tables
Although the Workforce Information Database can contain a large amount data, it does not, and cannot, contain all of the labor force, economic, population, occupational and other information produced by state and federal agencies. The databases and tables described on this page are not part of the Workforce Information Database. They fall into two categories: (1) comprehensive databases that are maintained and updated independently of the Workforce Information Database, and (2) tables that will be included in the Workforce Information Database for which questions or issues were unresolved at the time of the release of the current database version. The Non-standard Workforce Information databases currently available include:
External Databases:- O*NET 4.0 Database: The final version of the O*NET database that contained only analyst data. Subsequent versions include data from the O*NET data collection program. This database is maintained for those who need to use ratings over a uniform set of descriptors. This database contains 24 lookup data and crosswalk tables. You can view our documentation for the Workforce Information Database-compatible database or download the Visual FoxPro version.
- O*NET 12.0 Database: This version of the database is currently in use in online O*NET applications. The Documentation for the Workforce Information Database version is available, as is the Visual FoxPro database. See the NCSC O*NET 12.0 page for more info. Added 06/19/07
Supplemental tables (The tables in this section conform to the structure of the Workforce Information Database. The content of some of their fields falls outside that described in the database structure document. Those values will be incorporated in the next version of the database :
- New England Geography: Generally speaking, the New England states, unlike the rest of the country, ignore counties. Rather, cities and towns are their basic geographic unit. The Analyst Resource Center has developed a prototype set of geography files describing the region. You can view a document describing the tables' contents or download Visual FoxPro or MS Access databases containing the prototype content. Added 12/29/04, Updated 01/08/07
Tables for future versions (The tables in this list have been proposed for inclusion in the Workforce Information Database. Not all issues were resolved at the time of the release of version 2.3, so their inclusion will be in a future release. NOTE: these file structures are still evolving. Check back often for updates.) :
- Population Demographics: The ARC has developed a file structure for a table that can contain population demographics from the 2000 Census and the American Community Survey (ACS). The table can be populated down to the city level with census data and for several hundred counties and a growing number of cities from the ACS. The ARC has made the file structure available through the NCSC FTP server. The NCSC has developed some prototype content that contains some national and some Iowa data. National data are included from the 2004 ACS, and Iowa data are taken from the 2000 Census and the 2004 ACS. The file structure and prototype content are provided to allow state Workforce Information Database administrators to work with the file and extract contents for their applications. Feedback on the file structure and content should be sent to the NCSC. Once the file structure has been finalized, the NCSC will develop contents for states upon request from the state database administrator. Information will be included for the U.S., state, counties and cities from the 2000 Census and 2002-2005 ACS. Updated 11/01/07
- Job Benefit Survey Files: The ARC has developed a table structure for incorporating benefit data into the Workforce Information Database for those states conduct benefit surveys. You can view the structure document or download an archive file containing the structure document, MS Access and Visual FoxPro databases here.
