Workforce Information Database Licensing Information
The National Crosswalk Service Center (NCSC) is the national database manager for information about licensed occupations contained in America's Career Information Network (ACINet). The information is compiled by or for state Labor Market Information (LMI) agencies. The information is also available on a variety of state LMI web sites.
A number of resources are available on the NCSC's Internet FTP server. Click here to see a description of those resources. Included among the resources is an MS Access database designed for creating the licensing files through data entry or pasting information from other applications. Click here to download the file.
| Background Information | The NCSC has assembled state licensing information for display on the World Wide Web since 1998. The center has prepared a document that describes the recent changes in table structures and the services the NCSC can provide to help states deal with those changes and other issues. | |
| File Structure Document | The table structures are based on those found in Version 2.3 of the Workforce Information Database, but they differ because of the unique needs of the ACINet application. This document lists the table structures used and documents differences from the standard Workforce Information Database tables. | |
| Licensing Database Containers |
The NCSC has developed both MS Access and Visual FoxPro database containers for the ACINet licensing tables. The tables in these files contain fields not used by ACINet, but which are populated by the states for their own uses.
| Sample Occupational Enhancements |
The major structure change that was incorporated into licensing tables in Version 2.3 of the Workforce Information Database was the addition of a license-to-occupation crosswalk (LICXOCC in the Workforce Information Database, LICXONET in ACINet). This addition allows relationships between a single license and multiple occupations. The NCSC has prepared a document that illustrates potential relationships for engineers, teachers and physicians. The center can help modify their files' contents to incorporate enhancements for these and other licenses.
