New SOC-CIP Crosswalk... The NCSC has recently completed a prototype crosswalk linking the 2000 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) to the 2000 Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP). For more information, visit our crosswalk page . (01/15/03)

New OES Wage Files... The Bureau of Labor Statistics has recently made available employment and wage estimates from the Occupational Employment Statistics program for 2001. You can download the files from http://www.bls.gov/oes/oes_dl.htm. Separate files are available for national, state and metropolitan area estimates. Additional files include estimates by occupation at the two- and three-digit industry level. We've also made copies of the files available on our FTP server. We've also developed a list of the files. New O*NET Files... The National Center for O*NET Development placed Version 4.0 of the O*NET Database into production in their O*NET Online application on November 18. We've developed MS Access, Visual FoxPro and SAS/PC versions of the database. See our O*NET page for more information and links to related files. (12/06/02)

Training Files... The Bureau of Labor Statistics has developed computer-based training for those using the Standard Occupational Classification. We've made their package (self-extracting archive file -- 5.0 MB) available for downloading. The training includes six lessons ranging from the background of the SOC to SOC coding exercises. New O*NET Crosswalk... The National Center for O*NET Development and the Office of Apprenticeship Training, Employer and Labor Services of the Department of Labor have released a crosswalk linking the O*NET classification to the occupations used in apprenticeship programs. (11/07/02)

Search our pages... We've added a GoogleTM search feature to our web site. This feature allows you to search all of the contents of both our WWW and FTP servers for specific content. (11/04/02)

Labor Exchange Skills (a.k.a. Work Content Statements)... The Employment and Training Administration has just released the initial version of a database which links statements about work performed on the job to O*NET occupations. Development of this database resulted from a need for a common language for Jobs, resumes and courses. The database is already in use in the O*NET Center's O*NET Code Connector. (10/03/02)

New Web Resource... The Department of Labor's Employment and Training administration has recently completed the consolidation of a number of its Internet resources into a single Career OneStop web site. Resources included there include those from America's Job Bank, America's Career InfoNet and America's Service Locator. (07/30/02)

OOH Files... We recently received a set of text files from the Bureau of Labor Statistics which include the content of the 2002-2003 Occupational Outlook Handbook. Users should note that the content of some of these files may differ from the printed OOH. The files are updated regularly by the BLS as new information becomes available. The section most frequently updated is the "Sources of Additional Information." The most current files available are the text files found on the individual occupation pages at the OOH web site (http://www.bls.gov/oco/home.htm). The files we're making available are current as of this date. The files are available for downloading from ftp://ftp.xwalkcenter.org/DOWNLOAD/ooh0203/. Updated/New Projections Files... We've recently added new and revised files to the /DOWNLOAD/matrixus/ directory on our FTP server. The file OPTD0010.XLS contains a great deal of characteristics information for occupations found in the national 2000-2010 projections. This file replaces an earlier version in which estimates of total replacement needs were not available. The file OPTD0010.PDF contains the Bureau of Labor Statistics publication Occupational Projections and Training Data, which highlights the data contained in the XLS file. (07/15/02)

Download O*NET Career Exploration Tools... The National O*NET Center has just released downloadable versions of their Computerized Interest ProfilerTM and Work Importance ProfilerTM. You can download these products, including software and user guide from the O*NET Products Page. (07/15/02)

NCSC Temporarily Closed... On two upcoming Fridays, May 24 and June 7, our offices will close at noon due to a temporary layoff of all Department of Education staff. These temporary layoffs are the result of measures taken to bring the state's budget into balance for the current fiscal year. CIP Revision... The National Center for Education Statistics has released the 2000 edition of the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP). An Adobe PDF version of the manual (472 pages, 2.3 MB) can be downloaded from the NCES product description page. A printed version of the manual is planned, but is not yet available. Watch this space for announcements as we develop products which include the new CIP. (05/08/02)

New O*NET Version... The National O*NET Consortium has released Version 4.0 of the O*NET Database. The new version is available for downloading from a new page on the O*NET Center's web site, the O*NET Developer's Corner. On that page, the consortium announces their plan to make major revisions of the database available to system developers and others approximately six months before the revisions are incorporated into the O*NET OnLine Internet application. MOTD Update... The Defense Manpower Data Center has released a revision to their Military Occupational and Training Data (MOTD). This resource contains information about clusters of military occupations, e.g. accountants, electricians, special forces. The MOTD contains information about topics such as training provided, typical duties and civilian counterparts. You can download an archived version of the MOTD in an MS Access database, along with its documentation, by clicking here. O*NET Revisions... The National Center for O*NET Development has released an errata sheet for version 3.1 of the O*NET database. Codes for two O*NET occupations were changed to reflect changes in the underlying Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) made in 2000. We've revised our MS Access, Visual FoxPro and SAS/PC versions of the database. (01/30/02)
