Census EEO Files Available...On December 30, the Census Bureau released 18 of the 24 datasets that will make up the 2000 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) file. The files are available for downloading from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission website. You can also extract information through the Census Bureau's online application. The NCSC plans to develop a number of products based on the content of the EEO database. Check this page for new product announcements. (12/31/03)
OES Wage Database Files...The NCSC has moved the 2002 national Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) employment and wage estimates (see 11/26/03 announcement below) into database files for use in the ALMIS Database. in addition to the MS Access version announced on 11/26. For information about the ALMIS Database structures, see the ALMIS Resource Center's web site. The files are available for downloading from a directory on the NCSC's server. You can see information about the files in that directly or go there directly to download files. (12/18/03)
O*NET 5.1 Databases...The National O*NET Center released version 5.1 of the ALMIS Database in November 2003. The NCSC has developed Visual FoxPro and SAS/PC files in addition to the MS Access version announced on 11/26. The files, along with related file descriptions are now available for downloading. (NOTE: Files from the 5.0 development database are no longer available.) (12/16/03)
New OES Files...The Bureau of Labor Statistics has made files containing 2002 employment and wage estimates from the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program available for downloading. Various files are available at the national, state and metropolitan area levels. You will find the files on the BLS OES download page. Check this page for updates on the availability of related files developed by the NCSC. (11/26/03)
NCSC O*NET 5.1 Files...The NCSC has completed development of the MS Access version of the O*NET 5.1 database referenced in our 11/14 news item below. Development of Visual FoxPro and SAS/PC versions of the files continues. Check this page for updates on the availability of those versions. (11/26/03)
Career Video Updates...In October, the New Jersey Center for Occupational Employment Information announced the latest release in the Multimedia Career Video Library. This project, which has been funded by the Employment and Training Administration since 1998, now includes career videos covering 412 occupations along with a variety of related video files. More information can be found on the New Jersey Career Video page. You can also download individual files from that site. The NCSC has made the open-captioned MPG versions of the files available for downloading from our server at ftp://ftp.xwalkcenter.org/DOWNLOAD/video/ A list of all of the files, including lists of those new or updated in the October update, can be found in the filelist.txt file in the video directory. New O*NET Database...On November 5, the National NET Center placed version 5.1 of the O*NET Database into production in the O*NET Online application. This database version includes significant additions to previous versions. You'll find more information and files to download on the O*NET Production Database Page. The NCSC expects to make MS Access and other database versions of the files available soon. Check this page for updates. (11/14/03)
NCSC Annual Report Available...Each year the National Crosswalk Service Center reports on its activities. Our report for the year ending June 30, 2003 is now available in HTML and PDF formats on our reports page. Read the report and you'll find a detailed listing of our activities during the year as well as an analysis of trends in use of our services and files downloaded. (10/24/03)
O*NET Source Files Now Available...The National O*NET Center has released the tab-delimited text files we used to create the MS Access lay titles files described in the 9/12 news item below. The text file is available for downloading from the O*NET Center's Developer's Corner web page. (09/25/03)
Updated Occupation Titles...The National O*NET Center has released an update to its lay title file (common titles associated with Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) and O*NET occupations). The revised file contains an additional 524 records, for a total of 44,076. We've imported the data into an MS Access database and made that available for downloading. (09/12/03)
O*NET Updates...The National O*NET Center has released a Spanish-Language version of the O*NET database. They've published a web page that describes the database and includes a link for downloading. (08/15/03)
Census Geography...The Census 2000 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) file will be released later this year. This file contains a variety of information. Tables of greatest interest include estimates of the labor force by detailed occupation by sex and race/ethnicity. No estimates will be produced for counties of less than 50,000 population. However, smaller counties are included in "County Set Areas" which are combinations of counties that reach the 50,000 population threshold. The Census Bureau has published a web page with links to each of the states geographic areas for the EEO file. They've also published a web page with more information about the EEO file. (08/13/03)
New Database Page...The ALMIS Database contains a variety of economic, labor market, classification, crosswalk and other information. As programs and classifications change, the ALMIS Resource Center adapts the database structure to accommodate the changes. The consortium will also define ALMIS-compatible structures for other databases to make it easier to incorporate content from those databases into applications that use the ALMIS Database structures. Descriptions and downloads for a number of these databases are now available on our new Non-Standard ALMIS Database Page. Also included on the page is a link to ALMIS Database-compatible geography files announced in our news item on 6/13. You can now view the Bureau of Labor Statistics' initial plans for incorporating the new geographic areas into their programs. (06/30/03)
New Occupation Titles...The National O*NET Center has released a file containing common titles associated with Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) and O*NET occupations. The file contains 43,552 records. The text file is available for downloading from the O*NET Center's Developer's Corner web page. (06/19/03)
New Geographic Areas...On Friday, June 6, the Office of Management and Budget released revised definitions of Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs). They also defined Metropolitan Divisions as portions of large MSAs and established new geography types, including Micropolitan Statistical Areas. You can read about these changes on OMB's web page. We've created database files the new areas and their relationships to counties and made it available for downloading from our server. You can also preview descriptions of the files we've created. New CIP Resource... The National Center for Education Statistics has recently published a web page containing a number of resources related to the 2000 Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP). The page provides several extracts from the CIP, such as new programs and deletions. Crosswalks that include earlier versions of the classification are also provided, as well as crosswalks to major classifications (SOC, O*NET Career Clusters and more.) Watch this page for announcements about the availability of new CIP-related resources from the NCSC. (03/17/03)
New Career Video Files... The Employment and Training Administration, through the New Jersey Department of Labor, has released the latest version of its Career OneStop Career Video library. Three versions of the files are available for downloading from the New Jersey web site -- QuickTime, MPEG-1 uncaptioned and MPEG-1 open-captioned. The open-captioned files are also available for downloading from the NCSC FTP server. See FILELIST.TXT in that directory for file names and content. It's expected that the new videos will soon be incorporated into America's Career InfoNet, the Employment and Training Administration's Internet delivery system for job market information. (03/11/03)
Census Commuting Patterns... On March 6, the Census Bureau released the 2000 Census County-to-County Worker Flow (commuting) files. The NCSC has downloaded the information and formatted it for use with the ALMIS Database. Files containing counts of those commuting into and out of counties in each of the states are available in the individual state directories on the NCSC FTP Server ALMIS area. See the README.TXT file in the state directories for file names and more info. You can also download the entire national dataset from the ALMIS/NATIONAL directory. (03/11/03)
