    NAICS-O*NET and NAICS-SOC
    • Classifications:
      • NAICS -- North American Industry Classification System
      • O*NET -- O*NET 3.1/4.0
      • SOC -- Standard Occupational Classification
    • NOTE: There are two authoritative sources of information that relates industries to occupations. Both are produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and neither makes use of NAICS industry classification. The first source is the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program. The OES program surveys firms by industry (Standard Industrial Classification or SIC) about employment by occupations. The occupations used are based on the SOC. View the results here.

The second BLS source of this information is the employment projections program. Occupational projections combine OES data with data from other sources to provide employment estimates by industry and occupation. You can view occupational employment estimates by industry here.

      DOT-SOC
      • Classifications:
        • DOT -- Dictionary of Occupational Titles, 1991
        • SOC -- Standard Occupational Classification
      • Links:
        • 1998 SOC Occupations -- ftp://ftp.xwalkcenter.org/download/career.kit/dotsoc98.dbf
        • 2000 SOC Occupations -- ftp://ftp.xwalkcenter.org/download/career.kit/dotsoc00.dbf
        • NOTE: DOT-1998 SOC linkages were extracted from the DOT-O*NET crosswalk that is part of the O*NET 3.1 database by the NCSC. The O*NET 3.1 occupations were collapsed to their SOC counterparts, duplicate records were removed, and SOC titles were added. The 1998 SOC occupations in that file were converted to 2000 SOC occupations by the NCSC. NOTE: The O*NET 3.1 database included a number of changes from its O*NET 3.0 counterpart, including O*NET links for an additional 3,300 DOT occupations.
